The Cracker Queen

Hometown girl makes good!
Southern laughs galore

In THE CRACKER QUEEN, Lauretta Hannon tells stories with sass, wit and a bit of southern charm. Her entertaining stories of Crazy Aunt Carrie, The Goat Man, her own Mama smuggling cigarettes to chain gangs, and the more unsavory part of Savannah will make you laugh, make you cry and make you toast Lauretta with a Pabst Blue Ribbon. Based on her NPR Commentaries for All Things Considered and her one-woman show, THE CRACKER QUEEN proves that not all southern families are created equal, but they do all know a thing or two about surviving hard times.

Don't Know Where, Don't Know When (The Snipesville Chronicles Book 1)

A Different Day, A Different Destiny (The Snipesville Chronicles Book 2)

BOOK 1:

What a nightmare.

Hannah Dias, California Girl with Attitude, and Alex, her laid-back brother, have moved from exciting San Francisco to boring Snipesville. Life doesn't improve when they meet Brandon, a dorky kid who is plotting his escape from the Deep South, and the weird Professor.

Suddenly, the kids are catapulted to World War Two England. They fall into a world of dragon ladies, bomb blasts, ugly underwear, stinky sandwiches, painful punishments, and non-absorbing toilet paper.

They learn so much more than they could ever learn in a history class. Not that they want to learn it.

But they can't go home until they find George Braithwaite... whoever he is, and whatever he has to do with Snipesville.

BOOK 2:

When you wake up in the year 1851 on a Scottish hillside…or down an English coal mine…or in a field on a Southern plantation, you know you're in for a lousy day.

No day has been normal for Hannah and Alex Dias since they moved from San Francisco to the little town of Snipesville, Georgia.  Bad enough that they and their dorky new friend Brandon Clark became reluctant time-travelers to World War Two England.  Now things are about to get worse. Much worse.

From the cotton fields of the slave South, to the poorest slums of Victorian Scotland, to London’s glittering Crystal Palace, the kids chase a twenty-first century gadget through the mid-nineteenth century. But finding it is only the beginning of what they must do to save two beloved places from destruction, and heal a wound in Time.

Taste Buds, written by local Chef Rian MacDonald , leads you through the world of culinary arts as if you were in a private cooking class, learning terminology, techniques, and the use of ingredients easily found in your local grocery store. Chef Macdonald helps aspiring culinarians start with easy dishes, including the requisites of the recipes, like knife skills, and takes them right up to the classical French delights. Chef Macdonald insists the recipes presented in the book should be seen as guide lines upon which to "throw your own spin". The over arching message is to have fun with cooking while improving your palate, and sharing your cooking with friends and family.

Nappy Sunrae Crown

The character in the book is about an eight year old African American girl. It appears that her natural coarse hair is unacceptable. After reading books on African American Heritage at the library, she gets a better understanding of the texture of her hair. She comes to accept herself and her hair. Upon revelation, Sunrae says “Know matter what everyone else does, the sun wins, when my hair snaps, crackles and pops into nappy curls again.”

This book can be enjoyed by all ages. But if you really need a specific age, well, 5-12 year olds will like it.

MONA L. SCOTT is the author of Nappy Sunrae Crown, a wonderful book about an African American 8 year old who found learning about her heritage helped her with her self esteem.  Read more about it at:

Military History

The Last of the Combat B-17 Drivers

The Last of the Combat B-17 Drivers is the definitive and revealing biography of Col. Harold D. Weekley, USAF (Ret.), a 398th Bomb Group pilot and the last combat B-17 First Pilot of the World War II to fly the B-17 as pilot-in-command into the new millennium.

This comprehensive work combines Col. Weekley’s keen recollections with documented historical facts to describe his experiences as highly-trained U.S. Army Air Forces pilot in World War II, notably his combat missions aboard the Boeing B-17G Flying Fortress as a First Pilot flying from wartime England, his shootdown and bailout over enemy-occupied France, his escape and evasion, and his eventual repatriation to friendly forces. He concludes this book describing his close association with the B-17 into the 21st Century.

Throughout this intriguing work, Col. Weekley shares unabashedly his lasting love of his wife, family and country.

This richly illustrated book combines over 200 rarely seen black and white photographs, more than 50 illustrations, eight appendices, an index and lots of hard-to-find information.

I believe that Christians, as well as non-Christians, will read this book. Some will read to learn more of God’s Word and some will read out of curiosity. Before they know it, they will be hooked on Jesus.

Mary Otis is a Christian woman whose goal is to encourage everyone to learn God’s Word. She is convinced that God wants us to live by faith and not by fear. God has given us free will and He will intervene in our lives if we ask. We need God to hear our requests, so we must follow His instructions. God gave us His Word, Jesus, for our benefit. With the help of the Holy Spirit, she has come up with a system to make learning a little easier. To God be all the glory!

Living by the Boomerang

When things suck, you’re not stuck!

There is no doubt that what we do in this world comes back to us like a boomerang. And at times the result hurts.

To ease our pain and disappointment, we turn to a common universal principle and simply accept the outcome as “the way it’s meant to be.” Some might call it “fate.” Some might call it “karma.”

Just because it’s a universal principal doesn’t mean it’s a universal limitation. Nowhere is it written that the result you got is final. No law, whether spiritual or temporal, prohibits us from seeking a new avenue. So Living by the Boomerang picks up where this universal principle leaves off because the only way “it’s meant to be” is the way you decide to leave it.

Start Living by the Boomerang today to get the results you want and the success you deserve.

The Servants of Pilate

Is the world a static place? Is there not sometimes a hidden hand? Is to do anything preferable to doing nothing?

What would you do to change the world?

What would you give up to change the world?

Would you worry only about what you might lose rather than what you might gain?

Do material possessions liberate you or obligate you to their defense?

Is God hidden by modern religion rather than proclaimed?

Pontius Pilate ordered the crucifixion of Christ but he never lifted a hammer or a nail; the task was left to those who simply followed orders. Those who did without questioning why? Those so concerned with protecting their positions and their bobbles, their vain status that they would perpetuate evil without a second thought.

No different today, from the gas fires of Auschwitz to the deserts of Darfur to the criminality and storm of lies and propaganda that overwhelms the American populace. “Well, I would but I’m really busy,” or “That’s just a shame but what can I do?”

You can get in line!

The Servants of Pilate is the first novel from David Glen Cox, the award winning author and essayist. The story of a homeless man with nothing to lose who seeks an audience with the President of the United States of America.

Autobiography of a Georgia Cat

Autobiography of a Georgia Cat is the story of a Southern African-American family as it struggles with the illness and death of a granddaughter who is married to a Jewish man. Spirituality and family themes are emphasized. The story is narrated by Black Jack, the remarkable family cat, who also tells of his own life as an indoor-outdoor cat in Marietta, Georgia. Much space is devoted to “feline” mythology and spirituality which have a distinctly Native-American flavor. The strands of many cultures are woven into the fabric of this story, leaving the reader with a positive message of hope and of the oneness of all things.

Animal lovers will never look at their pets the same again after meeting Black Jack, a deeply spiritual cat with a wry sense of humor. He agonizes through the alcoholism of his guardian, Archie, and the increasing decrepitude of Archie’s wife, Cora, and her centenarian mother. The constant outpouring of gospel music from Mama’s radio adds to the spiritual power of this charming and touching story. Whether from his commentary on dogs, fur balls, human nature, or whatever he has on his mind as he tells his tale, the reader will know that he has had an encounter with a wise, wonderful, and unforgettable feline.
